What a fantastic evening for our first Ayrshire Book Club of 2025! We delved into "Gone With The Penguins" by Hazel Prior, and the pub - The Alton - treated us with Penguin-themed cocktails! Penguin biscuits were also on hand, complete with the cheesy jokes on their wrappers.

Unfortunately the book wasn't as well received as the cocktails with it scoring a mediocre 5 out of 10.

This is the 3rd and hopefully last in the Penguin trilogy and I think it was overload for us with the main character Mrs McCreedy annoying us and the constant "over Scottishing" of the story from an author who has obviously never been to Kilmarnock where some of the story is set. A few of us also thought the book was for children - especially when one of our members went to a local independent book shop to ask for the book and was shown to the childrens section!

February's Book Club is lined up next, and we're diving into something a bit risqué...

The Naughty Girls Book Club by Sophie Hart. As always the cocktails will be themed and we are going to all wear something red for "Filthy February"
